This Saturday’s show was another short one. However, this time around I had an in-studio guest with me. Here’s the recap…
Cafe Talk: How well do you know sports?
1st and only Hour: On this day in history and Top News…
* 1908: The Chicago Cubs beat the Detroit Tigers, 2-0, clinching the World Series.
* 1964: The United States civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., at age 35 became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He accepted the prize on behalf of “all men who love peace and brotherhood.”
In-studio guest co-host, Karen Isberg (singer, recording artist, and entertainer), shared who’s birthdaying today.
Top News was brief and included…
*The story about the U. S. Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross asking Congress for $3.3 Billion Dollars more to complete the 2020 census which now estimates to cost about $15.6 Billion Dollars. The additional dollars will go to testing and ramping up new technologies focusing mostly on cybersecurity.
*Facebook announced wireless Virtual Reality headset that doesn’t require wires or a smartphone to work and costs only $200. Of course, Karen and I joked about the problem many of us are facing dealing with the reality of everyday life let alone trying to figure out this new gaming technology called Virtual Reality!!! Anyway, at this price, Facebook is teetering on the possibility of getting this virtual technology into the hands of a billion people.
*Another Facebook story…They are now expanding the ability to order food for takeout or delivery straight from the app or desktop. The services that users will be able to use include Delivery.com, Door-Dash, and ChowNow. Facebook has been testing this service for the past year.
Cafe Talk went well. Karen and I shared that we both are basically above what an average person may know about sports but not quite intermediate yet. For me, working in media has helped me learn quite a bit. For example, I reported that I know that the Minnesota Lynx won the WNBA Finals!!!
I gave away the second 12 Saturdays Til Christmas gift bag. Congratulations to Rita B. of Joliet, Illinois. Be sure to tune in for your chance to win next week.
Before wrapping up the radio show, I spent sometime talking with guest co-host, Karen Isberg about her singing career that began when she was in the 3rd grade. To date, you can catch Karen performing at Giovans Restaurant in Crest Hill, Illinois. And, if you can’t make it to Giovans, tune in on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 to the 10th Annual Christmas Celebration broadcast because she will be performing. Yes! Live in studio! Go to marilynscafesociety.com for more details. In addition to singing, Karen shared that she recently retired from a long career in long-term health-care administration.
The hour went by fairly quickly. I’m looking forward to a full show next week.
Have a great week everyone.
