MCS Radio Show Recap- Saturday, October 21st, 2017

Hello,

It’s wonderful to be back on the air for 2 hours!  Although, I must say I have enjoyed the faster pace of the one hour shows lately.  If you missed us then here is what you missed…

Café Talk:  Have you experienced OR witnessed a major party blooper?

1st Hour– This Day In History and News

Sharman Strode, entertainer and lead female singer of the Shindigs joined me in studio; and Brianna is back!

*In 1879, after 14 months of experiments, Thomas Edison invented the first practical electric incandescent lamp.

*In 1996, the Dow Jones Industrial average of 30 major stocks topped the 6,000 mark for the first time.

*In 1922, Herbert Birch Kingston, a Cleveland, Ohio philanthropist and candy company employee started Sweetest Day.  He wanted to bring happiness to orphans, shut-ins, and the under-privileged. So, he started giving candy and small gifts to them.

Sharman presented the names of those who were born on this day.

News:

*Swiss Re, one of the world’s biggest re-insurers, reported that the insurance costs of the 2017 hurricanes and earthquakes in the U.S. and Mexico, could hit 95 Billion dollars.

*The National Association of Realtors recently reported that the U. S. home sales rose slightly last month as the Houston housing market quickly recovered from Hurricane Harvey.

*And, speaking of the U.S., according to the Motley Fool, overseas visits to the United States has declined.  Data collected from the National Travel and Tourism Office showed the year-over-year change since the beginning of the new millenium.  Key events seem to play a role in this decline.  Click here for more…www.marilynscafesociety.com.

Brianna, Sharman, and I chimed in on Cafe Talk by sharing Facebook posts.  I referenced a survey conducted by BJs Wholesale Club which indicated that some 65% of Americans say that they have witnessed a “party blooper”.  Examples include, running out of food or drinks, OR not having appropriate activities for children.

Before wrapping up the hour, I finally introduced Sharman Strode as the second singer to sign on to the 10th Annual Christmas Broadcast.  She shared that she began performing in her high school swing choir and then went on to sing on various praise and worship teams in local churches.  About 10 years ago, she started performing in a 60’s cover band and for the last 6 years have been performing as lead female singer for the Shindig band.  She’s also a keyboardist.  For more information, go to the special events page of www.marilynscafesociety.com.
