Short and Sweet!

Hello Friends. I hope that you are having a wonderful week. Thank goodness we survived the blast of extreme heat and humidity that hit some of us late last week into the weekend. Now, if the temps can just stay in the 80s for the rest of the summer, I would be so pleased.

Listen, as titled, this blog is going to be “short and sweet”. Mostly, because I have not been feeling my best for the last few days so I haven’t spent much time brainstorming/seeking inspiration to write this week’s blog. Don’t worry, I’m much better now. God is good! However, as I struggled to stay healthy, I thought about doing away with this blog. I just didn’t have the energy to write or think so I thought “forget it!” I even considered throwing in the towel on my YouTube show!

Yes, indeed. I was not feeling my best at all.  Yet, well, here we are with another blog in the books.  I said all of that to say this everyone.  Don’t give up on your passions, dreams, work, ministry, businesses, family, etc.  There will be times when you may feel like giving up but don’t!  Take a break if you must but don’t give up on yourself. That’s it! Short and sweet.

Hotter Than July

While some western states in the U.S. are baking at that typical triple digit summer temperatures, tens of millions of Americans will experience record-breaking heat wave temperatures well into the 90s with the heat indices potentially sweltering up to 110 degrees or higher.  Those of us living in the central, south, and eastern regions of the U.S., get ready.  Here’s how…

  • Have a cool, air conditioned place to be during this excessive heat event.
  • Avoid the sun AND outdoor activity.
  • If you work outdoors, try to reschedule strenuous activity.
  • Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Don’t drink alcoholic beverages because they cause dehydration.
  • Reduce use of other electrical gadgets as many will be running their a.c. 24/7 in an effort to keep cool. This will help prevent a blackout from occurring.
  • Check on the elderly, young children, the vulnerable, and pets.
  • Cancel or reschedule travel plans.
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. They both require immediate, emergency medical attention.

I realize that there are many seemingly more important things happening in the world to blog about but my top concern is to help keep everyone safe.  Be careful everyone and please take this weather advisory seriously!  And yes, I’m in deejay mode—this blog title is a nod to Stevie Wonder’s nineteenth album entitled, “Hotter Than July”!  It’s truly is HOT!

Keep Your Head to the Sky

Hello there.  Are you enjoying the summer heat?  It got very hot in Chicagoland yesterday. I believe that we hit 100 degrees or more with the heat index!  I thought about the coldest, snowiest day that we had this past winter and kept my mouth shut.

Sooo, this blog title reminds me of the 1973/74 Billboard Top 25 song by the Grammy Award winning band, Earth, Wind & Fire!  I thought about this song when I recently posted a picture of my mother posing with her head lifted upwards.  The social media posts were in loving memory of her on her 78th birthday.

Keeping our head to the sky was something that she drove home to us (her children) as well as others who would receive her inspiring words.  Sometimes we’d come home from school (and as we got older), work, or somewhere “in a slump” for whatever the reason; and she’d encourage us and try to lift our spirit.  “Hold your head up!”,  she’d say.  “Believe what God says about you!”  My father encouraged us in this way, too.   “Stop looking down.  Look up so that you can see where you’re going”!

As we live life, we no doubt have/will face challenges and/or be met with some disingenuous people who don’t like you and will try to discourage, discredit, and just plain “dis” you.  They’ll try to keep you from becoming all that God intended you to be.  They’ll try to block or even take YOUR blessings.  The key word here is “try”.  As long as you spiritually and, if necessary, physically “keep your head to the sky” meaning turn to God (Our Heavenly Father) who is here, there, everywhere, (even in you) and ALL POWERFUL, you WILL get the victory!  Now, that’s what HE said!!  Not me.  Okay, so sometimes we may be the culprit—putting too much pressure on ourselves; being hypercritical of ourselves; etc.

Nevertheless, lifting your head to the sky is like lifting your hands in Praise.  You are acknowledging God’s majesty; surrendering to his magnificence and sovereignty!  You are trusting his Word, Instruction, and Lead.  You are showing humility while building your God-fidence.

“Keep Your Head to the Sky” my friends and enjoy your FLOURISHING business, career/job, educational pursuits, family life, health and wellness, and anything else God put in your heart to accomplish or achieve.

Haven’t heard the song in awhile?  Here’s the link https://youtu.be/qpD4siBSUO.  Enjoy.  It still sounds soo good.

It’s Ringing!

Hello friends.  Can you hear it?  It’s ringing!  Can you hear it ringing!

It’s freedom!  Freedom is ringing everyone!

For the United States of America in 1776 and even now, freedom meant becoming independent from the oppressive British rule and gaining all kinds of individual rights including being able to act, speak, or think independently without fear of backlash.   In 1863 for Africans in America or those born in America , freedom meant being released from dehumanizing slavery and all the ugliness that followed.  For Women in America in the 19th century to date, freedom meant/means having the right to own property; the right to vote; the right to hold public office; the right to work in any occupation or job with equal pay; the right to make their own health related decisions; and more.

For people in the American LGBTQ community from the 1960s to current times, freedom means having the right to live openly without experiencing any form of discrimination.   For immigrants fleeing from their home countries for various reasons (like political and economic unrest that led to war, famine, and poverty) in the 1700s and even now, freedom meant/means a new, safe, fresh start in the Land of the Free, America.  For those unjustly incarcerated in America, freedom means being exonerated; having their name(s) cleared; having their record(s) expunged; having their lives restored.

It’s ringing everyone!  Freedom is ringing.  The ringing MAY NOT be clear, on pitch or tone buts its ringing.  Sure there’s still work to do but its ringing!

On a lighter note, for the song bird, Deniece Williams (Wanna Be Free) or the funktastic band of the 1960s-70s,  the Ohio Players (I Want To Be Free), freedom meant/means breaking free from a love relationship that no long made/makes them happy.

Last and certainly not least, Christians/believers in America and around the world have the best kind of freedom, spiritual freedom.  We have been liberated to walk in relationship with our Heavenly Father, God and to be ALL that He created us to be including being his hands and his feet.  Trust and follow Him in order to find joy in the best Freedom that we’ve been given.  Blessed to be a blessing.

Indeed, Freedom is ringing everyone!  It’s ringing!  Can you hear it?
