Back To The Future-Part 2

Happy Wednesday!  How are you?  Ready for Part 2 of the “Back to the Future” journey?  Yes?!  Well, let’s go!

In last week’s blog I summed up my life/business/career reflections and re-evaluations not just from the last year but for over the last 40 years hoping to inspire you to do the same.  Hopefully, you discovered some overlooked, yet, amazing  realizations as I did.  I admitted, however, that despite all that positive discovery, I still had some resetting to do.  So, we began to reset during last Saturday’s show by looking at “the why”?  Why do you want to be what you want to be; do what you want to do; achieve what you want to achieve?  Why?  If you missed it, be sure to check it out on the YouTube channel.

Alright, now that you have your reflections and have become even more inspired by re-visiting your “Why?”, let’s get more concrete by answering two additional questions.   Where are you (personally and professionally)?  And, where do you want to be one year from today?  Not “where” as in location but “where” as in accomplishments, goals, and achievements.  Here’s a couple of very basic examples– personally, right now, I consume roughly 12 ounces of soft drinks per week.  One year from now, I’d like to be consuming 12 ounces of soft drinks per month.  (Side note:  10 years ago, I was consuming 12 ounces per day!)  *Thank God for progress*  Another example, professionally, today my business functions as a “d/b/a”.  One year from now, I’d like for my business to be incorporated.  For you, maybe your “where” is bigger.  Today your business grosses 1 million per year.  One year from now, you want it to gross 2 million per year.  Easy breezy, right?  It could be.  Just pace yourself.

Once you have your “wheres” answered, map out a plan that will get you from point a (now) to point b (one year from now).   Next, you have to “work” that plan but stay open for divine intervention and perhaps even re-direction.   I’ll continue to check in and share with you via this blog, the show, and other ways as we continue on this faith journey.  In the meantime, I’ve got a class to check into; a song to sing; and a green tea drink to consume!  ; )

Back to the Future!

Hey there!  Well, here we are.  Part two to last week’s blog where I blogged about reflecting on the time when I was a child trying to imagine what the year 2020 would look like; what my life would be like.

I imagined that I would be happily married with at minimum 2 children and maximum 4—ideally with the same number of boys and girls.  I imagined that I’d be a broadcaster on the radio or television; and that I’d be a model and business woman.  Back then, when I wasn’t outside jumping rope and playing, I was watching television or listening to music on the radio.  So, I imagined that I’d be a star actress and singer too.  I imagined that I would have so much money that I could buy a huge mansion so that my whole family could live with me!  Goodness!  Didn’t I have big dreams?

This past September I challenged us all to reflect, re-evaluate, and make adjustments to year end goals for our lives (careers and business included).  Well, I not only reflected on the last year but also on the last 40 years.   Last year I missed the mark personally, career, and business related.  For the most part, I simply maintained or experienced slight growth in a few areas.  However, when I reflected over the last 40 years, I was truly amazed.  Take a look at all that has happened…

  • I was once happily married.
  • I am a mother.
  • I was a radio broadcaster for combined 16 years and am now an internet broadcaster. (I now want a broadcasting company.)
  • I have met, interviewed and talked with national and international leaders, celebrities, musicians, authors, etc.
  • I graduated from modeling school as a teenager and modeled in fashion shows over the years.
  • I started my first dba business in the late 1980s offering secretarial/general business, and public relations services. It is now a dba business offering media, advertising, and marketing opportunities to other businesses as well as serving as the production arm of my weekly broadcast on the internet.
  • While my name is not on marquees “On Broadway” or “Off Broadway” for that matter, I have had the opportunities to perform on stage in a few local productions; and even had an experience of a lifetime performing in one of the episodes of the television hit, Empire. (Although, if you blink, you’d miss me!  LoL!)
  • As for singing, well, I’ve sung in church and school choirs; and since becoming host of my own radio show in the mid-2000s, I’ve sang along with some of my favorite artists as well as performed on my Christmas Celebration shows.
  • I don’t have enough money to purchase a big mansion, yet, which is okay because family members have their own desires for their living locations/spaces. And, besides, I now want subdivisions, not just a mansion.

Okay, so clearly I have not achieved the monetary or fame level that many associate with success.  In fact, some of you are probably thinking, oh how insignificant the experiences are Marilyn.  However, don’t you find it amazing that I have managed to do that which I imagined myself doing as a child?  Keep in mind that in some cases, I did not seek out the opportunities that I referenced above.  They came to me; and the others I pursued or created for myself.  God is amazing!  While I was harping on missing the mark in the last year, he caused me to remember that which had been accomplished over the last 40 years!    I hope you reflect back over the last 10, 20, 30, 40+ years too.

What’s even more amazing is how the various jobs and career opportunities that I had over the years prepared me for the bigger picture.  You all some of those job/career opportunities I pursued and others I accepted reluctantly.  However, the skill sets, the knowledge, the people contacts, and the overall experiences were priceless. Sometimes what looks like a setback is actually necessary for your further development.   Right?! All right, so nevertheless, I still feel like I/you have some resetting to do.  And, if you can relate at all be sure to stay with me as we take this journey together to become better as well as move closer to our goals.

On the next show, we’ll reset by remembering “the why”.  Tune in this Saturday, January 18th, 2020  on https://www.youtube.com/MarilynsCafeSociety.  Be sure to “like”, subscribe, share, and/or follow my social media platforms at marilynscafesoc on Twitter; Marilyn’s Café Society on Facebook, YouTube; and marilynscafesociety.com.  Peace.

Happy New Year!

Well, I don’t know about you but I feel so blessed to usher in a new year as well as to toast to this past decade and put it in its place in the books.  Welcome 2020!

Welcome decade of the millennial 20’s!

I’m amazed because I remember being a little girl thinking about the future– the years 2000, 2020, and beyond.  I remember trying to imagine what the world would look like; what my life would be like.  I remember just how much of a stretch it was to visualize the future.

I remember thinking that I’m going to be in my 50’s and how I thought that I was going to be so old!  Now, I believe that I’m not old at all.  In fact, the fifties are the new thirties, right?!  LoL   All right, listen, back then my concept of the future was based on the television cartoon, “The Jetsons” and a few of the other sci-fi television programs that we’d watch as children.  I thought that by 2020 some humans would actually be living in space–riding in those “Jetson” styled cars; talking to friends and family on those TV-like phones; and using robots to do the housework!

Oh!  Wait!  We are!  The future has arrived!  The future is Now you all!!

Ok, maybe not completely “Jetson” style but self-driving cars are being tested and likely to hit the general mass market in the next couple of years; and I recently read that flying cars are now only decades away from reality.  As for cars that fold up to the size of a brief case?  Well, that is a different story.  However, video phones are common place now.  Almost everyone on the planet has the capability to videochat!  Vacuums and mops like Roomba, iRobot, and other robotic cleaning gadgets have certainly been available for a while now.  Hey, thanks to the development of Artificial Intelligence, even Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant have made life a little easier.

As for humans living in space (beyond the outer realm of the Earth’s atmosphere), we have a ways to go.  However, from what I understand, since the 2000s humans (astronauts) have temporarily lived in space on the International Space Station (ISS).  Of course along with NASA, the Richard Bransons, Elon Musks, and Jeff Bezos of the world would like to make living in space or even on the Planet Mars a more permanent reality for humans.  And, even though no man has walked up there since 1972, others in the space arena believe shooting for life on the Moon would be more achievable.

In the meantime, there are a few humans who can afford the rare “space tours” that are now being offered.  In fact, Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic has already gotten several celebrities signed up for his upcoming “space tour” for a meager $250,000 deposit.  What year will it happen?  I’m guessing maybe sometime in this new decade.  And, Space X and Amazon’s Blue Origin have now developed vacation or holiday getaway trips to space.  Remember?  I talked about this on my radio show several years ago!

Wow!  Just think you all.  Next time you say to someone “To the Moon with you” OR “Get lost in space”; they now may actually have the option to do just that!  LoL!  OR Rather than telling someone to go to the other “place”, you could switch it up and tell them to “Go to Heaven”!  LoL!  And, they could, in this decade, physically go to heaven/space!!!  LOL!!!  Okay.  That’s it everyone.  Again, Happy New Year.  Part two next week.
