Strengthen Your Strength (Part 4)

Peace everyone.  What’s happening with you?  Are you feeling stronger? Well, we all should be!  However, before we go off chanting “If it is to be.  It is up to me!”, we must remember to first and foremost be grounded spiritually.  A solid spiritual foundation alone, will provide us with all the confidence or “Godfidence” that we need to continue “strengthen your strength”.

And so, as I close out this blog series, I simply want to remind you of the reason you must “strengthen your strength”.  We live in a world system that trains people to look for and point out weaknesses in others.  Now, I’d like to think that its so that we can be given an opportunity to become better, more well-rounded people OR to simply learn something different.  However, be careful because some people focus on your weaknesses to dismiss your strengths for their own selfish purposes that range from you being a threat to them to them just wanting to disqualify you or block you from receiving economic, professional, and/or social advancements and rewards.

You all, you must not allow this to happen to you.  As I said last week, know thyself and continue to build on your strengths– whatever they may be.  Listen, I just left a store where a young man was set up in the parking lot with a small sound system; and he beautifully played his violin.  His wife and little girl were with him. Also, there was a big sign by their car that basically read, “I’ve lost my job and I need extra help to continue to take care of my family.  If you enjoy my musical performance, please make a financial donation”.  I do not know what kind of work he did but it should have involved playing the violin because he played it masterfully!  Perhaps, he played the violin in a symphony orchestra???  If so, then his current situation is clearly circumstantial.

Regardless, this man is now forced to become more self-reliant and he is supplementing the family income by using his musical talent in a very public space.  He undoubtedly knows that playing the violin is a strength that he has; otherwise, I do not believe that he would have put his family through that experience.  As I sat in my car and listened to his performance, I observed at least 6-8 people drop money in his bucket before I got out to add my donation.  I am more than certain that by the time he packed up to head home, he would have received hundreds of dollars in donations.

Stay focused, my friends.  Whether it’s to counter an effort to keep you down or a real honest situational circumstance as described above, continue to “strengthen your strength”.  Stand strong spiritually, physically, and professionally.  And as always, stay safe and be well.  Remember to strengthen your immune system by eating healthy and taking a good multi-vitamin; wear your mask; watch your distance; and wash your hands often.  Oh, and have a wonderful Good Friday and Happy Resurrection Sunday a/k/a Easter Sunday! In Jesus Name.  Amen.  And, so it is.

The next broadcast will be the 16th Anniversary show!!!  Set for Saturday, April 10th, 2021 on  https://youtube.com/MarilynsCafeSociety.  Also, check out marilynscafesociety.com.  And, be sure to connect to my social media from there as well as “like”, “subscribe”, “share”, and “follow”.  Peace.

Strengthen Your Strength (Part 3)

Hello everyone.  How is your world and point of view growing?  I certainly hope that you all have become more “open minded” in the past week and continue to expand beyond your immediate world.  Today’s blog will focus on one last tip that will help you “strengthen your strength” by becoming more self-reliant.

Now, I use the term self-reliant loosely.  I know that first and foremost, it is imperative that we trust in our Heavenly Father, the creator, God.  It is also important to have a mentor, mentors, or someone in our lives that we can reach out to for guidance, advice, and support.  Nevertheless, we must learn to be more self-reliant.

If you viewed the show this week, you know that the guest (Tonya Lewis Taylor) recently authored a book entitled, Be You, Not Her.  The book basically takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery and the gist of it is for us to learn and know thyself.  I believe that once that is accomplished whether male or female, young or old, professional or worker; we can become more self-reliant.   We will be more introspective and determined to make our dreams come true.  We will rely on our own power to reach our goals.

And that, my friends, is owning your strength.  Strengthening your strength. This undoubtedly adds value to our existence; our community; and our world.  So, light it up!  And in the process, stay safe and be well.  Remember to strengthen your immune system by eating healthy and taking a good multi-vitamin; wear your mask; watch your distance; and wash your hands often.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.  And, so it is.

Strengthen Your Strength (Part 2)

Hey there, my friends.  Have you been spreading your wings this past week?  I have..  I have also been expanding my point of view.

As I reflect, I have discovered that I have been doing this for decades now.  First in my public relations work and, certainly, as host and producer of my show.  While, I have not become the country or globetrotter that I aspire to be, through my work, I have in a sense, travelled the United States and the world via the phone or internet.  I have met and connected with people from all over! In the process, you all, I have managed to sharpen and maintain my “strength” through communicating and working with others from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.

Friends, we should indeed spread our wings and, also, expand our frame of reference or view of the world and cultures within it.  Communicating with others who exist outside of our immediate circle of influence or community, allows us to understand people who come from a variety of backgrounds.  We become more “open minded” and less tolerant of ‘small mindedness” or “small thinking”.  As a fan of Shark Tank television show, I have, on occasion, heard Kevin O’Leary share his experience of living in other parts of the world as a child/teenager with his mother due to his stepfather’s various work relocations.  He talked about how those experiences sharpened his business acumen as well as his understanding and view of the world economy.  He also shared how he developed an appreciation for other people and cultures.  Developing an expanded worldview will give us the soft skills that we need to build on our strengths.  Listen, if you are not globe or country-trotting yet, use the internet and telephone to connect with others.

You all, let’s continue to light up the world with our presence.  Strengthen your strengths and stay safe.  Also, remember to strengthen your immune system by eating healthy and taking a good multi-vitamin; wear your mask; watch your distance; and wash your hands often.  Be well.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.  And, so it is.

Strengthen Your Strength (P1)

Happy Women’s History Month everyone!  In case you did not know, we get a whole month because We Rock!!!  Well, listen, this blog will be a bit brief but “meaty”.

And, so, strength, is the topic with a focus on women (for Women’s History Month).  I believe I blogged about the different aspects of strength in the past.  You know, the ability to endure and to persevere in the physical, the mental, the spiritual—in our work, careers, businesses, relationships, etc.  Women have made great strides in the recent decades and we cannot afford to lose ground.  Others see our mirific strengths and because they feel threatened or inferior they will choose to focus on our weaknesses to hold us down or keep us back.  As a result ladies, you must not lose sight of your strengths.  You must continue to light up the world and maintain your confidence.  In this blog series, I’ll share some ways that you can maintain or hold on to your strength.

First, spread your wings.  Yes, that’s right.  Expose yourself to a variety of experiences that will allow you to fine tune your strengths while you also explore other interests.  Now, to achieve this, you may have to create your own opportunities; and, thank God we live in a time and space where it is much easier to do that for ourselves.  Should you discover a professional or work related weakness and don’t have the budget to hire someone to handle that particular task or function for you, then take a little time to learn what you can so that you can perform in that particular role until someone else can be hired or brought on board to do it for you.  Also, if you find that you have weaknesses in your personal life, determine how important it is for you to make a change. Do you really enjoy dancing enough to want to perfect it? Will volunteering help make you a better person? Listen, experience is indeed the best teacher and seasoning for our professional and personal life.  Fly. Better yet. Soar!

Friends, as we spread our wings, let’s stay strong and safe.  Vaccine or not–Remember to strengthen your immune system by eating healthy and taking a good multi-vitamin; wear your mask; watch your distance; and wash your hands often.  Be well.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.  And, so it is.

Remembering Mama

Friends, I hope that this week has been your best ever!  March is here and for those of us who experience the Winter season, the promise of warmer weather and beautiful flowers is greatly anticipated!

Aaah, speaking of flowers, I am taking some time today to remember my mother.  As those of you who have been with the show and the blog for awhile know, my mother took flight 4 years ago today.   Norrisa Griffin Harris lived a victorious life!  With the strength of the Lord and in his Power, she battled through times in her life for herself, her children, and for those to come.  She so desperately tried to protect us.  And, when her mind was made up about something that was going to benefit her family, she didn’t let NO ONE discourage or stop her from making things happen!  If our Heavenly Father said it, then that settled it!

You all, my mother was not perfect.  She didn’t get parenting right every time.  However, like many other mothers, she did the best she could with what she had spiritually, emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, financially, and physically.  And, what our earthly Father couldn’t do, our Heavenly Father stepped in to fill the gap.

Yes, my mother was indeed a perennial flower.  She kept bouncing back.  Beautifully Blooming.  Year after year.  Norrisa Griffin Harris, I remember you today and always.  I see you, my mother, my flower, in the Heavenly Realm.  Beautifully Blooming.  Evermore.

Friends, as my mother and father would say, take care of yourselves.  Remember to strengthen your immune system by eating healthy and taking a good multi-vitamin; wear your mask; watch your distance; and wash your hands often.  Stay Safe.  Be well.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.  And, so it is.
