Replenish and Subdue.

Well, here we are friends in the double digit days of September already.  Labor Day has come and gone.  Most all the children, college students, and their instructors have returned to school or work.  In the midwest, summer has begun to bow to Autumn; and, we’ve been experiencing comfortable temps, and rainy, yet beautiful days.

So, this week’s blog will close out my thoughts on how we can apply Genesis 1:28 in all areas of our lives with the focus on “Replenish and Subdue”.   I will not spend any time on ”…and have dominion over…” because I believe it’s meaning is explicitly and implicitly clear.   Honestly, so is to “replenish and subdue”.  But again, so that we can help ourselves and others become self-sufficient, here it is.  I believe our Creator is not just referring to filling the earth with more humans/mankind as well as taking care of earth and the lives created.  God wants us to “replenish”/fill by utilizing the gifts, skills, creative ideas we’ve been given so that we can have all that we need and want (spiritually and materially) to live a blessed life.

We are to “subdue”/control/manage OUR individual gifts, creative ideas, skills to not only bless our own lives but the lives of others too.   Note that we are to “subdue” OUR lives, etc.—not the lives of others.  Now, that behavior comes from another entity, not GOD!  And sadly its responsible for all the “isms” that we are in the process of eradicating to this day.   “Replenish and Subdue” YOUR life and bless others!

Okay everyone.  That is all I have for you today.  I can’t say it enough.  Self-sufficiency is attainable.  Again, simply do what God said—“Be Fruitful And Multiply” and “Replenish and Subdue”.   Be Blessed!  Amen.  And so it is!

Café Talk:  Back to school time!  What was or is your favorite subject in school?

1st Hour– This Day In History and Top News

Brianna popped in to co-host with me.  Here’s what we cooked up and served.

On This Day In History…

*In 1776, the 2nd Continental Congress officially changed the new American nation’s name from United Colonies to the United States.

*In 1850, California became the 31st State in the U.S. of America.

*In 1998, Four tourists who had paid $32,500 each were taken in a submarine to view the wreckage of the Titanic. The ship is 2 miles below the Atlantic off Newfoundland.

Just two stories for Top News:

*The aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma; and potentially, Jose and Katia tops the news.  Also, in a related story, five former U.S. presidents recently announced that they would team up to create the “One America Appeal” to raise money for storm recovery as Texas and Louisiana seek to regroup from Harvey and Florida and the Atlantic coast brace for Hurricane Irma.  The former presidents include Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.  Online donations can be made at OneAmericaAppeal.org.  And, current president, Donald Trump showed his support by tweeting:  “We will confront ANY challenge, no matter how strong the winds or high the water. I’m proud to stand with Presidents for #OneAmericaAppeal.”

*We all heard about the president’s recent decision to end a groundbreaking program implemented by the Obama administration in 2012.  The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) provides nearly 800,000 recipients the ability to attend school and work without fear of deportation.  After a social media and media uproar, President Trump later said that he will revisit the matter if Congress does not develop and pass a new program for young immigrants. Here’s a call to action from the American Assn of University Women…Call your representative and tell them to protect Dreamers and pass the Dream Act today! Go to aauw.org for more information.

Joliet District 86 Superintendent, Dr. Theresa Rouse joined me in studio for Café Talk. It was truly a treat to talk with her.  We talked about educating millennium children; what’s new at District 86; and shared quick tips to having a successful school year to parents and students.  We also discussed Howard Gardner’s theory of initially seven and now nine intelligences or learning abilities.  Some may remember that Soul and I shared this theory last year on the show.  Here they are—musical-rhythmic, visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. He later suggested that existential and moral intelligence may also be worthy of inclusion.  Oh, by the way, English Literature and music were my favorite subjects in school.  Brianna shared that Science and the extra-curricular activity of making school announcements over the PA system was her favorites.  And Dr. Rouse said that music was her favorite subject.

Viola Davis shared her childhood experience and how teachers made the difference in her life.  We all agreed that to Rethink, Reimagine, Rebuild public high schools as well as elementary & middle schools is long overdue.  Click here for audio.

MCS Radio Show Recap – Saturday, August 19th, 2017

Hi guys, I had a very busy yet productive week.  I felt like an octopus trying to get multiple things done at one time!

Nevertheless, I had to make time to let you know what you missed this past Saturday. Here you go…

Café Talk:  What do you like most about “Back to School” time?

1st Hour– This Day In History and Top News

Chantal Hill, the Spiritual Ballerina, was the guest co-host today and here’s a couple of highlights from the “This Day In History” segment…

*1849 – The rush for gold in California was accelerated due to a printed story in the NYC Herald.  A man by the name of James Wilson Marshall discovered gold in present day Sacramento, California.  The initial report of discovery was mostly ignored until the NYC Herald wrote about it.  People from every where headed west to find their fortune.  By December of 1849, the population in that area of California mushroomed from the 100’s to an estimated 100,000 people.

*1967 – The Beatles, “All You Need is Love” single goes #1.  The Beatles actually performed the song on the first “live” global television link, “Our World”.  It’s reported the the BBC broadcast via satellite on June 25th was viewed by some 400 million people in 25 countries.  After that groundbreaking performance, the song was tweaked and then released for sale to the masses on July 7th.  It quickly became the number 1 song in at least 10 countries and was also the slogan for the summer of 1967.

Cafe Talk sparked interesting commentary for Brianna, Chantal, and even a call from Apostle Jonas of New Covenant Worship Center, 2423 Glenwood Drive, Joliet, Illinois.

The Entertainment Talk segment included chatter about who the next Bachelor might be; Marlon Wayans new television show on NBC; World of Dance winners, the Les Twins; and more.   Click here for audio.

I talked about the “Monochromatic look for the Fall” during Passion for Fashion.  Ladies and gentlemen, don’t be afraid to wear dresses, suits, and other outfits in general of the same color.  Yes, including same color shoes and accessories.  What an awesome burst of color!!!  Check it out.

Brianna and I talked with the Spiritual Ballerina about what she’s been up to since the last time she stopped by the radio show.  She shared information about an upcoming project that she’s doing entitled “Women of the Bible”.  She called it visual art and said that it will be on display at the Joliet Area Historical Museum in October of this year. Here’s a sample of Chantal’s visual art.
