MCS Radio Show Recap – Saturday, October 28th, 2017

Thank you everyone for your extreme patience in waiting for the weekly recaps. Know that I’m diligently working to catch up. Here’s what happened on this show.

Cafe Talk: Halloween is just a few days away, share the last or most recent time that you were truly afraid.

1st hour:

Just a couple of items were highlighted during the “This Day In History” segment–

In 1636, Harvard College was founded in Massachusetts. It’s now known as Harvard University.
In 1919, Congress passed the Volstead Act that enforced the constitutional amendment that prohibited the use of alcoholic beverages. The ban on booze lasted more than a decade. Then in 1933, Congress finally repealed the Volstead Act.

Brianna shared celebrity or famous birthdays before I touched on a few Cafe News items–

Airline travelers can expect an increase in ticket prices due to the rising cost of fuel. Most major airlines reported an increase in fuel prices as high as 20% in some cases in the last year.
Ecommerce titan, Alibaba has purchased 49% of the Brooklyn Nets valuing the NBA team at $2.3 billion dollars.
Next month we’ll welcome in Election Day (for some), Veterans Day, and the Thanksgiving Holiday. But few of us know about November being National Novel Writing Month. Author, world-traveler, Kay Bolden, stopped by to remind us about the nanawrimo.org site that helps individuals get started on their novel. Brianna and I took the challenge to write a novel in 30 days. Ha! We’ll see how that works out. You all can go to marilynscafesociety.com for the audio.

The Cafe Talk segment was fun! Brianna and I shared as well as read comments from Facebook. I then opened the phone lines for a lucky caller to win the 12 Saturdays Til Christmas Gift Bag. Congratulations to Brian S. of Joliet, IL for winnnig!!

Before closing out the first hour, I reminded listeners about the upcoming 10th Annual Christmas Celebration show set for Saturday, December 2nd, 2017.

2nd Hour

Entertainment Talk included banter about Dancing with the Stars; Justin Timberlake performing at the 2018 Super Bowl Half Time show; Janet Jackson’s State of the World Tour landed in Chicago; movie director, Ava DuVernay and the creators of the first Sesame Street muppet on the autism spectrum were awarded the Smithsonian magazine’s American Ingenuity Awards. Other 2017 recipients include, musician, John Legend; and NASA scientist, Natalie Batalha. A total of eight recipients were honored in categories that include technology, performing arts, visual art, life sciences, physical sciences, history, social progress, and youth.

After Passion for Fashion, which included talk about Halloween makeup and fashion, we talked more entertainment. Before closing the show, we shared important Halloween information,
